Jonathan and Darla Sherry
As the youngest child of Lee and Becky Sherry, Jonathan Sherry has been an MK and involved in missions all of his life. He has been an associate in missions since January 1996. As such, he has worked extensively in the Bible school in Vanuatu. He stated, “During the 1996-1997 furlough of missionaries Lee and Becky Sherry, I was the acting administrator for the Bible school, responsible for all matters and decisions. I was also in charge of the national church office. I filled these positions again during their 2000- 2001 furlough.” With administrative skills and field-tested ministry, Jonathan Sherry received his appointment as a UPCI missionary to Vanuatu in October 2001. After deputation, he returned to the field in August 2004. Where he now pastors the All Nations church in Port Vila, teaches in the Bible School as well as works in administration. As a young girl, Darla Sherry felt the call to be a missionary. She began preparing from an early age to fulfill that call. She attributes much to the many mentors in her life, including her grandparents, Rev. & Mrs. L.W. Shaw who were missionaries in Alaska, her cousin Kevin Shaw who now pastors is the District Secretary, in Denver, Colorado. Other missionary mentors she has had include: Kathy Miller, Bro. & Sis. Gary Sones, Bro. & Sis. William Markham, among others. In the year 2000, as an Associate in Missions, she left for the country of Morocco. Following the leading of the Lord, over the last nine years, she has worked in several countries including: Spain, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Turkey, & Suriname, as well as taking short trips to Mexico and El Salvador. Her home church stateside is THE LIFE CHURCH, in Kansas City, Missouri, pastored by Rev. Stan Gleason, District Superintendent. It was there that she founded the Multi-Cultural Ministries Department of the church, and started the Spanish church, Iglesia de la Vida, which she pastored for 3 years. Now that the Lord has brought her and her husband together, she will join him in the country of Vanuatu, where she will teach in the Bible School and endeavor to reach into the expat French speaking community, among other responsibilities.
